Angel Cruz is awaiting trial for the murder of the leader of the cult that stole away his best friend. Alone, terrified, he is abused by the other inmates until he is transferred to solitary for his own protection. His only contact with the world is a surly prison guard, a disillusioned young public defender, and a sociopathic serial killer, Lucius Jenkins, who shares his hour a day of outdoor time. 

Lucius claims to have found God, an inexperienced public defender has gotten a little too sure of herself and Angel’s life will be changed by both of them.
